Introduction

The ‘Filby’s Motors – Lifetime Contribution to Farming Award’ is open to any active or retired North Queensland (Mackay to Hinchinbrook) farmer, who has made a lasting impact on the agricultural industry through commitment, resilience, and leadership. It honours an individual who has contributed significantly to the success and sustainability of farming in North Queensland.

Judging 

Nominations are judged by an independent panel, with members to be confirmed closer to the event. Judges will be selected to ensure fairness, integrity, and a strong understanding of North Queensland’s agriculture sector.

Judging will be based on the merit of the nominations received and any subsequent information as requested.

The independent judging panel’s decision will be final.

Important Information for Applicants

Before submitting your application, please ensure you have completed all sections of this form and addressed each of the criteria thoroughly. Entries will be assessed on the strength of your responses to the questions below and on the quality and relevance any supporting material provided.

You are invited to nominate yourself or your business, or to put forward another individual or business you believe has made a valuable contribution to North Queensland agriculture. If you are nominating someone else, please complete the nomination form to the best of your knowledge. Bowen Gumlu Growers will inform the nominee of their nomination and assist in finalising the submission if needed.

A shortlist of five applicants will be selected and recognised at the NQ Growers Gala, where the winner will also be announced. All shortlisted applicants will be notified by 30th June 2025.

This nomination is for:

Name
Include how many years they have been involved in agriculture, the types of farming enterprises/crops they have managed, and how they have maintained quality and sustainability over time. Up to 150 words.
Highlight any pioneering work, introduction of new practices, crop variety or technologies, or creation of new opportunities for the region. Up to 150 words.
Examples may include overcoming drought, market downturns, personal hardship, or changing industry conditions. Up to 150 words.
Share specific examples of leadership, community involvement, mentoring, or knowledge sharing. Up to 150 words.
Include references to their relationships with suppliers, customers, or other industry figures, and their reputation for quality and integrity. Up to 150 words.

A shortlist of five applicants will be selected and recognised at the NQ Growers Gala on the 30th August 2025, where the winner will also be announced. All shortlisted applicants will be notified by 30th June 2025.

All nomination responses will be kept confidential and used solely for judging purposes, with highlights from the five shortlisted entrants featured in the official Gala Awards booklet.
