Small businesses impacted by the North Queensland Monsoon Trough, Tropical Cyclone Koji and associated severe weather from 24 December 2025 can now apply for disaster recovery assistance of up to $25,000 to support clean-up and recovery.
The grants are available to eligible small businesses located in activated local government areas across North Queensland, including Burdekin, Townsville, Whitsundays, Mackay, Cassowary Coast, Mount Isa, and surrounding councils.
Exceptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants can be used to help cover:
- Clean-up and disposal of damaged goods and stock
- Repairs to buildings, plant and equipment
- Purchase of materials and equipment for recovery
- Additional labour costs required during recovery
Businesses can apply for:
- An initial grant of up to $5,000 with evidence of damage, followed by additional claims up to the $25,000 limit, or
- A single application for up to $25,000 once eligible recovery costs have been paid.
In addition, concessional disaster assistance loans are available, including:
- Loans of up to $250,000 to repair or replace damaged assets
- Essential working capital loans of up to $100,000
- A concessional 2.14% fixed interest rate for up to 10 years
Applications for grants close 15 January 2027, with loan applications open until 31 December 2027.
